Extensive research on body movements has revealed that 20-30% elasticity in fabrics provides a high level of comfort and quick recovery (return to original length). Garments made from such fabrics also retain their new appearance for a long time.
Elastic woven fabrics containing elastane (spandex) allow for body movement, fit the body properly, maintain their shape, and provide wearing comfort. Polyurethane-based elastane yarns impart elasticity, excellent wearing comfort, good shape retention, and high functionality to textile products.
Elastane yarns can be added to products in their bare form, as spiral yarns, as core yarns, or as air-entangled yarns. Elastane-containing corespun yarns (e.g., Lycra-containing) offer fabric designers a wide range of possibilities. This is because such stretch yarns can be produced with almost all staple fibers as coating materials, exhibiting a wide range of properties.
Demand for garments made with elastomer-containing fabrics has increased significantly in recent years due to reasons such as providing comfort during movement, minimizing sagging and looseness that may occur with use, and providing a pleasing appearance. The use of elastomer in fabrics ensures that the fabric fits the body better, like a second skin, and maintains its shape well without any deformation until the end of the garment's life. This new fabric concept has an increasingly wide sales and usage area in active sportswear and everyday wear. The most important applications for elastomeric yarns are not only fashionable garments but also socks, swimwear, sportswear, and underwear.
